I can’t believe it’s almost that time of year again! My daughter reminded me today that our silly elves will be showing up here in four days! Oh the old Elf on the Shelf. It all started with one Elf, and then my daughter insisted that she have her own so now we are the proud owners of TWO Elf on the Shelf’s (can you hear my sarcasm).
After a handful of years you sort of run out of ideas, right? I guess that’s when marketers got smart and decided to create all sorts of Elf on the Shelf clothes and Elf on the Shelf props. Aaaaannd the Elf on the Shelf dynasty keeps going (like a darn energizer bunny…can we take the battery out please :)).
Let’s first talk about the elf.

What is the Elf on the Shelf?
Elf on the Shelf is a Christmas tradition where a scout elf is sent to your home from the North Pole. The idea is that Santa’s little helper watches children during the day, and each night, returns to the North Pole to report on whether they were naughty or nice.
Elf on the Shelf only has one rule; You aren’t allowed to touch the elf or it will lose it’s magic powers.
The idea is that the magic elf will sit lifeless during the day watching the ins and outs of the children and then come alive at night to scurry back to the North Pole to report everything to Santa.
So in layman’s (or parents) terms; the little elf needs to be moved every night to a new position to prove that they left and came back.
I have my elf, now what?
Now it’s time to be creative and find all sorts of silly shenanigans to get your scout elf into. Sometimes this requires props right?
FYI, these elves are the same size as a Barbie doll. This means they can fit into Barbie (or Ken) clothes, ride in their cars, hang out in the Barbie house, etc. Be creative with that. Don’t have girls or Barbies? Other figures work just fine too like with this Hulk Hogan wrestling figure.
