Genius Kid Storage

The Easiest Way to Store all your Kids Memories; Private Instagram Account

In the age of technology, eeerrrbody has a smart phone, right? It’s easy to take thousands of phone pictures of your kids BUT what do you do with all of them? How do you keep those memories when years down the road those pictures are lost in space (or the cloud). I’m not sure my kids will want to keep up with all those snap shots when they grow up. What can you do to safely store memories that isn’t a pain to keep up with or pass on to your kids? My solution; create a private Instagram account for each child. Save the best pictures and videos and caption each post with a detailed memory.

Storing kids memories with an instagram account

There are so many different ways to store your pictures; iCloud, external hard drive, on a computer and the list goes on.

My question was always, “how do I easily pass these pictures on to my kids when they get older?”

I’ve thought and thought about this and I do believe that Instagram is the easiest way to quickly store memories that you will keep for many years.

I know some of you are thinking, “what happens if Instagram goes away?”

I’ve already thought about that and decided that if they do, there should be ample time and notice to move those files to another source.

Also, it’s a really good idea to back up those Instagram files periodically. I found a great source on how to do that HERE.

Let’s talk about logistics for a second. Say you have multiple kids plus your own Instagram account. Is it easy to switch back and forth between multiple accounts? You bet it is. See Instagram’s post about how to do that HERE. No logging in and out!

Another great “kid storage idea” is to take pictures of their favorite artwork and post those to their Instagram timeline.

My favorite thing about this solution to storing all your kids memories;

You can easily create a book or gift without having to download another app! Examples of companies that do this are: ChatbooksBlurbArtifact UprisingPinhole Press and Shutterfly

Another bonus to creating a private Instagram account for your kids; share the password with TRUSTED members of your family (grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles, etc.) so they can share memories also.

Since Instagram won’t let you delete the account from inside the app, you won’t have to worry about a family member accidentally deleting the account. Way to go Instagram!

Now head over to Instagram and create a new account for your kids and start sharing memories!

They will thank you later, I promise.

Family Friendly April Fools Pranks for Kids

Like most kids, my oldest has started watching YouTube. One of his favorite things to watch is kids “pranking” other kids or pranking their parents. At first I didn’t condone this, but after watching a few of them they are pretty darn funny ! Of course, I have to make sure the ones he is watching are in good spirit and not offensive in any way. I decided that with April fools day coming up, I would gather a list of family friendly April fools pranks for kids.

Family Friendly April Fools Pranks for Kids

The best family friendly April fools day jokes:

  1. DIY Spilled Coffee Prank– This prank comes from the blog Red Ted Art and she gives a fabulous tutorial on how to create your own “spilled coffee prank” that parents will freak out over!

Easy DIY Kids Bracelet from a Craft Stick

Sometimes the easiest DIY to do with our kiddos can be right under our nose. I’m a believer that you don’t have to spend a lot of money on craft supplies to create with your children. Can you believe that with only a few simple craft sticks, a little water, and a little time you can create your own easy DIY kids bracelet? You won’t believe how simple this is. This is a great kids craft of all ages. Ready, here we go!

Easy DIY Kids Bracelet from a Craft Stick

I’m going to make this tutorial really simple because, well, this craft is super simple!

Here is my tutorial for the easy DIY kids bracelet from a craft stick.

  • Soak craft sticks in water for at least 2 hours
  • Pull craft sticks out of the water and start to bend them SLOWLY – if you bend them too fast they might crack or splinter
  • Bend the sticks enough to fit in a glass. You can also wrap a rubber band around them. Note: the craft stick will expand a little after you remove it so bend it tighter than you want it.
  • Let the craft sticks sit in a glass overnight or at least 12 hours.
  • Remove your new “bracelets” and decorate them however you wish!

Wasn’t that simple! My favorite type of crafts are those that are super easy and super cheap. After all, it’s not like kids cherish their crafts :).

I’m going to sum this whole process up in a YouTube video below. Come on over and give us a follow on YouTube if you don’t already! Also, Like our facebook page so you won’t miss any updates.
