The story of Jonah and the Whale is a timeless biblical tale that teaches valuable lessons about obedience, second chances, and God’s love. One creative way to bring this story to life, especially if you’re a Sunday school teacher, is through a fun pool noodle craft. This is a great way to enhance fine motor skills but also connects kids of all ages to important Bible lessons.

While learning about Jonah in the belly of the whale, kids can make a simple whale craft with a pool noodle and a printable template of the whale fin. This is a fun way and creative way to reinforces the narrative.

How to make a Pool Noodle Whale craft
Like I said, this is a super simple whale craft.

First things first, take a knife (caregivers should do this first unless you have an older kids as helpers) and cut different pieces from the pool noodle. I like to cut 1-2″ pieces.

You can cut as many as you would like. Then take your scissors and use the free printable to cut out the fins.

Then take a hot glue gun (again, for older kids or caregivers only) or regular school glue, and attach the “fin” to the center of the cut pool noodle piece.

I used hot glue and this is what the fin attached to the pool noodle looked like.

Next add some googly eyes and pipe cleaners and you are done! Easy peasy right?

I love how simple this craft is and it’s a great addition to the Jonah and the Whale story.

As they complete these bible crafts, they’ll explore the themes of the Old Testament, including the significance of Jonah’s mission to the people of Nineveh and the importance of following God’s command.
Whether you are doing other whale activities, using coloring pages or other creative ways to tell stories, an interactive craft encourages creativity and deepens understanding to important lessons. I think the underlying message from the book of Jonah is about God giving a second chance.
