The Unlikely Transformation of Action Figures

Action figures have come a long way since Star Wars first molded the first Dark Vader toys twenty five years ago. Those figures were not painted but molded with colored plastic. The plastic also contained chemical additives that are now considered a ‘no no” in childrens toys, such as phthalates. But one thing is the same: the movie industry is still the leading catalyst for action figures. Today’s hottest action figures are usually associated with the latest hot action movie. Some new trends are role playing games and computer games, such as World of Warcraft, which have collectible action figures that are artistically rendered and universes beyond the clumsy Star Wars figures from the last generation of toys.
