There are armchair model railway experts who read and do nothing more. Then at the other end of the scale you have experts who have accumulated their model train equipment over 10 or 20 years and fill basements with their layouts.

At each end of the scale there is a lot of fun to be had. The model railway hobby can be as time and money intensive as you want it to be.

Sure there are some money saving tricks and tips to model trains that every beginner should be aware of, but other than that, model trains is undoubtedly the best hobby in the world.
