Kid Crafting Safety
Wednesday, September 3, 2008 16:27Kids crafts include activities like painting, drawing, sewing, and working with clay, etc. All these and other such activities make children learn and develop the basic concept of art.
All these arts and craft activities include the usage of paint, glue, needles, scissors etc. Paints and glues contain substances that could prove to be harmful for health if not used properly, so introductory awareness lectures need to be conducted before starting these activates with children.
Some of the safety tips are stated below:
1. Only those products which are specially designed for children should be used.
2. Such art products that contain artificial food scents should be strictly avoided. (Such smells are prone to tempt children to make them eat the art materials)
3. Strict, careful and keen observation must be practiced while the children are busy with their tasks.
4. Vivid and clear instruction must be provided before usage of any art material.
Complete cleaning instruction should also be provided on the proper usage, and cleaning of the art material.
5. Eatables should not be allowed in the working area. Also, working area should be separated from the eating areas.
6. The art materials should always be kept in their respective containers, and not in any food containers.
7. The amount of material assigned to each child should be well catered. That is, children should always be given the approximate amount of material they require for their work.
8. Washing of hands properly should be ensured after the completion of the task.
Apart from the instructions stated above, other safety precautions should also be observed. For example, children should be made to realize that they are not to put their hands in their mouths while they are working with the art material.
