How A Random Shopping Afternoon Led To Me Having To Carry Out Simple Maintenance On My Girlfriend’s Motor Car, Including Obtaining And Attaching Replacement Wiper Blades

It was just a few weeks ago that the weather was dry and the days were long and boiling, but now the days are getting shorter and they generally seem to be overcast. It was on one of these overcast days that my girlfriend wanted to go shopping; usually I would have driven to the stores, but my car was getting checked over at the dealers. On the way home from the stores, the grey skies started to darken and it began to pour down. My girlfriend turned on her windscreen wipers and all that they did was smear the down pour across the windscreen. This was because her wiper blades had deteriorated at the time and needed to be replaced. As she is a little younger than me, and I knew that they had added straight forward maintenance to the driving exam now, I asked if she was going to buy replacement wiper blades. She turned to me and mentioned a nice gentleman would do that for her, so I got the hint that I would have to buy some replacement wiper blades and fit them for her. This is when I had to ask if she had clarified the oil levels, water levels or maybe the tyre pressures since the last time the car had been checked over, the reply was no and that was what kind males were for, and at this point I became aware that I had a few checks to carry out on her car.

When we arrived back from retail therapy it had stopped pouring down, so my girlfriend went inside to prepare some lunch for us both and I turned to the car and began work. I thought I better begin by browsing the wiper blades on her car makes website, as I could not clarify a precise oil level check from the car until it had cooled down. The initial thing I did was measure the wiper blades so that I knew what size replacement wiper blades to get, and in completing this I discovered the wiper blades were not just worn out but they had began to break and the frames had detached from the wiper blades in several locations. After we ate lunch I studied the car and the type of oil that was essential, the car had been sitting for about an hour now and I thought I could get a reasonably accurate level check from the engine oil, it was a bit on the low side but above the minimum. I did a visual check on the cooling water as the engine was still hot, this could have indicated that it was still pressurised and should not be opened. As a result, I could see the level on the blue plastic water bottle and it seemed within the required level. Next, I had a look at the tyres once more, but it had to be a visual check as I had not got my pressure gauge or tread measure with me. After a look round all four tyres and giving them a slight kick for good measure, I concluded that they were fine and there was plenty oftread left on them.

My car was ready to be picked up from its checking over now so we went to pick it up, and on the journey home I stopped in the nearest motor parts store which luckily was just round the corner from the dealership. After spending some time browsing all the replacement wiper blades I chose a pair of flat wiper blades. I had not noticed this type before and they did look cool and also because they were built from silicone, they came with a one-year guarantee. I also picked up a litre of engine oil, and when I got back to my girlfriends home I secured the %KLINK3% and put a few glugs of oil in the engine, bringing it back up to the maximum level. I also made a mental note to get myself some flat wiper blades as I needed to replace my wiper blades and also that I would need to remember to check my girlfriends car from time to time.
