Fast Tips to Improve Your Bowling Game
Thursday, August 5, 2010 16:53If you haven’t been bowling before, then you might be surprised that it’s a little more difficult than it looks. The object of the game is relatively easy: you simply send a ball along the lane, aiming at the pins in an attempt to knock as many as you can over. You’re given two attempts to knock each of the pins over. Everybody should be able to bowl. The majority of new players are instinctively aware of what they need to do the first time they try. Of course, what newer players have trouble with is mastering the techniques that can raise a score from simply good up to great.
One thing you need to learn, especially if you are a new bowler, is how to send your ball down the lane in a straight line. The reason so many bowling balls wind up in the gutter and missing the pins completely is that many people unintentionally put a spin on the ball when they let it go. Your goal should be to learn how to take any twist out of releasing the ball so it will travel in a straight line. To achieve this your left foot has to be in the center of the lane when you release your ball. For left handed people, make sure your right foot is in the center of the lane. Aim the ball over the third arrow. You will find the third arrow on the board that is fifteenth from the right. When throwing the ball, you need to make sure that your shoulder is lined up with this fifteenth board. Keep your throwing arm from trending toward one side or the other. Another thing you need to work on is how many steps you use to take your perfected approach. Do not listen to anybody who tells you that you need to take a specific number of steps to bowl better. How many steps you should take depends on a lot of things, and all of them are very personal. How tall you are affects the number. It depends on the length of your stride. It is affected by your speed and how hard you toss the ball. Your distance from the throw line when you start is also a factor. Over time you will figure out just where to start walking from and how many steps you should take and how fast those steps should be.
Focusing on the ball also applies to bowling, whether you believe it or not. Of course, you shouldn’t literally just stare at the ball while you are bowling. It implies that you need to keep your attention on the goal, or the pin you intend to hit. Keeping your eye on the prize will mean that your arm will naturally send the ball in the same direction as your line of sight. The principle is just like in baseball where if you focus on the ball you have a better chance of hitting it. Like just about everything else in life, the more you practice, the better you will be at bowling. It is possible to become a better bowler by getting tips, and there are plenty of them.
To bowl a better game, ask an expert for some tips of technique. Those who want to learn to be better bowlers usually don’t have trouble getting help from an expert.
